West Hartford Peddling Wednesday Bicycling Series

Town's recreation department and 'Bike West Hartford' organization create summertime 'Wheels on Wednesdays' guided bike rides.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A summer program encouraging families to put the pedal to the ... er ... pedal starts Wednesday at West Hartford Town Hall.

Promoted by the town's leisure services department, the program is called "Wheels on Wednesday" and they're designed to encourage folks to get on their bikes and traverse the town's bicycle friendly roads and trails.

The first event is Wednesday July 13 at 7 p.m., with participants gathering in the West Hartford Town Hall parking lot near the flagpole.

Each program will be led by a member of "Bike West Hartford," which is a local nonprofit group dedicated to the local cycling scene and encouraging folks to pedal with their feet instead of pushing a gas pedal.

• Aug. 3 at 7 p.m., meet at West Hartford Town Hall parking lot near flagpole.

• Aug 24 at 7 p.m., meet at the north parking lot in Fernridge Park, 567 Fern St., for Orange Loop Route ride. Trip starts and ends at Fernridge Park.
