West Hartford Police Charge Man with Sexual Assault of Teen He Met Through Craigslist

West Hartford police have charged a 20-year-old New Britain man with sexually assaulting a teen he met through Craigslist and then extorting jewelry and money from her.

Steven J. Turner, of 384 Commonwealth Avenue, was arrested May 1 on charges of risk of injury to, or impairing morals of children, second-degree sexual assault and first-degree larceny by extortion.

Police said Turner had sexual contact with a 15-year-old juvenile he met through a Craigslist personal ad and then extorted money and jewelry from her to keep their contact a secret.

Turner was held on a $20,000 surety bond and is due in court on May 14.
