WEST HARTFORD, CT — Catching the bad guys is just one part of a municipal police department.

Often, the daily tasks police officers undertake are on the more gratifying side of helping society, namely helping folks who are less fortunate and embarking on community enhancement initiatives bringing good fortune to those in need.

With Christmas approaching this weekend, the West Hartford Police Department is looking back on a successful season of not only spreading law and order, but spreading joy as well.

The department's Community Relations Division reported Tuesday that four toy drives throughout the month collected over $1,000 in cash donations and several hundred toys.

WHPD officials said those toys were spread out to all 11 West Hartford elementary schools, helping to ensure a happy holiday for many who were not looking at one.

They also got a little help from the West Hartford Social Services Department.

"Thank you to WH Social Services for their partnership throughout the years which allows us to be able to continue to support countless families in need this holiday season," wrote the WHPD via social media.

The WHPD even posted a video showcasing these efforts.
