West Hartford Police Update Fatal Hit-And-Run Case
West Hartford police are "clarifying" information on a fatal accident.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford police said Tuesday they are continuing to investigate a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run incident on Route 44 in April. They were also "clarifying" some "misinformation" circulating about the bond in the case.
West Hartford police announced the arrest last Thursday. A day earlier, Sharon Esson, 52, of Hartford, was taken into custody on a warrant and charged with evading responsibility in a crash involving a death.
Local police said they had no influence — or say for that matter — in the initial $50,000 court-set bond being reduced to a promise to appear in court during Esson's arraignment. It's a court matter, police said.

The incident dates back to the morning of April 10, when West Hartford police closed off a section of Route 44 after a body was found on the side of the road.
The road, known locally as Albany Avenue, was shut down between, Prospect Avenue and Whetten Road just after 7 a.m., police said. It was re-opened about two hours later.
Authorities said officers received a report from a jogger who saw what appeared to be a dead body. Police then found a deceased man, later identified as Isaac Alvarez, 19, of Hartford, a report indicates.
The West Hartford Police Department and the Hartford Police Department Intelligence Unit then identified a "suspect vehicle" as well as a "person of interest," a report indicates.
