West Hartford PZC Mulls Plan For YMCA Summer Camp At Church

It has scheduled a public hearing next month on a proposed YMCA summer day camp at the church site.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A local church hopes to expand its offerings and offer the community a YMCA summer day camp program at its site.

The West Hartford Town Plan and Zoning Commission unanimously voted Jan. 5 to schedule a public hearing on a proposal that would allow a summer day camp to operate at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

The application, filed by Westminster Presbyterian Church for property at 2080 Boulevard, seeks approval of a special use permit to expand the church’s existing use to include an accessory child day care center.

If approved, the expansion would permit a summer day camp run by the YMCA for children ages 3 to 15.

Commission members voted 5–0 to hold the required public hearing at a special meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, at 7:15 p.m.

The hearing will take place in Room 314 at West Hartford Town Hall, 50 S. Main St.

Commissioner Brian Grassilli made the motion to schedule the hearing, which was seconded by Commissioner Matthew Gillette.

Commissioners Daniel Ahern, Jennifer Binkhorst, Gillette, and Vice Chair Andrew Kaplan voted in favor, along with Grassilli, who was seated for Commissioner James Gomes. There were no votes in opposition.

No discussion or decision on the merits of the application occurred at the Jan. 5 meeting.
