West Hartford Rallies For Scholarships In Memory Of Conard Coach
A new scholarship fund in memory of the late Kerrie Massaro has been established.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — More than $37,000 has been raised for a new scholarship fund in memory of the late Kerrie Massaro, the former Conard High School girls soccer coach who passed away on Nov. 1 at 49 after a battle with breast cancer.
The funds have been accumulated via a Go-Fund-Me account set up in Massaro's memory. (Click here for the link.) As of Monday afternoon, a total of $37,700 had been raised.
"Kerrie fought breast cancer with incredible strength, courage, amazing resolve, and never quit," according to her obituary posted by the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home. "Kerrie was an incredibly dedicated mother to two amazing daughters, the best wife, a loyal daughter and granddaughter, a protective & loving sister, and always loved being with her family and friends." She coached at the high school for 16 years. The West Hartford Women's Soccer Club posted on the GoFundMe page that "She was a wonderful player and teammate and a dedicated advocate for women athletes and women's soccer."
"Coach Massaro's was a shining light," another person posted on the GoFundMe page. "Her legacy will live on with all women coaches and female athletes. Her positive life, role modeling for others, and kindess will continue throughout West Hartford."

Here's what organizers said about the scholarship.
"Coach Kerrie Massaro was a dedicated and caring coach who loved her players and the Conard soccer family. Coach Massaro valued effort, leadership and sportsmanship.
"This award will be presented annually to a Senior Conard High School Girls Soccer Player who embodies the characteristics Kerrie modeled as a former athlete, teacher, and coach: Courage, kindness and determination.
"Funds raised will be held by the Coach Massaro Memorial Scholarship and dispersed each spring to a deserving Senior Girls Soccer Player who embraces Kerrie’s spirit and the qualities we loved so much about her."
