West Hartford School Bus Driver Hospitalized After Crash With SUV
A student and the bus monitor also sustained minor injuries in the accident, which occurred during the snowy morning commute.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — A West Hartford school bus driver was hospitalized with minor injuries after the driver of an SUV lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the bus on Monday morning, according to police.
Police said there were five students on the bus at the time of the accident and one sustained a minor injury. The other adult on the bus, the monitor, also had a minor injury. Neither the student nor the bus monitor was transported to the hospital and sought their own treatment, according to police.
The accident occurred at about 8:25 a.m. when it was snowing and the road surface was very slippery, police said, on North Main Street.
The school bus was headed to Norfeldt School when a 2003 Ford Explorer, operated by Verona Jones, 47, of Bloomfield, crossed the yellow lines and crashed into the bus.
The Ford Explorer sustained heavy damage to the front and rear end and had to be towed from the scene.
The school bus had heavy damage to the front left area and the left side and also had to be towed.
Jones was given an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.
