The problem was first discovered on November 25, 2014, while a police officer was on patrol. He noticed the sinkhole and 25-foot wide distress cracks near the crosswalk on LaSalle Road. The Metropolitan District, the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, the Department of Public Works and Town Engineer were alerted. The hole was patched and a more permanent correction was slated for the Spring 2015.
The MDC has determined that major road reconstruction is required to fix the problem. The MDC is scheduling the work in June 2015.
