West Hartford Skating Rink To Close For Months For Renovations
It will reopen over the summer after significant facility upgrades.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Folks locally will have to put their skates away for a few months.
Veterans Memorial Skating Rink, 56 Buena Vista Road, will close this spring for a major renovation project as the facility nears 25 years since its last significant upgrade, town officials announced.
Work is scheduled to begin Monday, March 30, with the rink expected to reopen Aug. 1, 2026.

Planned improvements include the installation of a new refrigeration system, along with the replacement of piping and the concrete flooring beneath the ice surface.
The project also calls for new dasher boards, updated glass and netting, and renovations to the lobby flooring, locker rooms, and surrounding perimeter areas.

Peter Montesano, facility manager, and Ean Gorlick, recreation specialist, said in a joint message that the upgrades are intended to modernize the rink and improve the experience for users.
“We look forward to welcoming you back and continuing to serve our community for many years to come,” they said.
Officials encouraged residents to follow project updates through the facility’s social media channels.
The closure will come one day after the last major event at the old facility.
The New England InterClub Council hosted the 2026 Eastern Sectional High School Final last Friday, March 27, through Sunday, March 29.
