New West Hartford Starbucks Finally OK'd By PZC

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Caffeine addicts earlier this month received a nice morale boost when the West Hartford Plan & Zoning Commission gave the final approval for a new Starbucks coffee shop in town.

After weeks of several land-use steps regarding the project at 433 S. Main St., West Hartford, the PZC Dec. 5 voted 5-0 to approve the special use permit for the operation, which is being called a "new restaurant drive-through facility." The initial application was in September.

The action, which did come with some conditions, means the developers of the site, Corporate Center West Associates LLC, now have all the town approvals necessary to build and brew at the location.

The conditions attacked to the PZC's approval are the standard ones that go with such applications.

Namely, the project must meet various codes and zoning regulations, meet adequate parking requirements and the drive-through cannot be open from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

In December 2024, the applicants are to come back to the PZC for a standard review to determine the compliance of the Starbucks with town regulations.

The Starbucks would be a complement to further development being pitched by the applicant.

For example, the developer is pitching a mixed-use development that would also include a large expansion of the Hartford Healthcare facility nearby in addition to the new Starbucks.

According to plans submitted to the town, the new Starbucks would be 2,417 square feet and include the reconfiguration of the parking layout, installation of new landscaping, lighting and pedestrian amenities.
