West Hartford Street Fair Emphasizes Human, Pedal Power
The annual 'Center Streets' festival is Sunday, with four roadways closed to vehicular traffic and open to human-powered traffic.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — For much of the day Sunday, cars will be off limits in a busy section of town as foot power will supplant horsepower as the prime mode of ground transportational propulsion.
The "Bike West Hartford" organization is hosting its annual "Center Streets" festival in town on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On that day and at those times, large sections of Farmington Avenue, South Main Street, Memorial Road Extension and LaSalle Road will be closed to cars and trucks. No vehicles allowed.

Instead of motorized transportation, families are invited to ride their bikes, walk or roller skate ... anything powered by humans (Unsure if Flintstones' car is allowed, however).
In addition to having free reign of the streets, visitors will be able to enjoy live music, children's games and shop and browse through the businesses and shops in the "Center Streets."

Volunteers are still being sought to help make the day eventful, with set-up, safety, photography and breakdown helpers being sought.
The festival is being hosted by BikeWestHartford.org, a local grassroots organization dedicated to ensuring a safe and active biking scene in town.
It is also sponsored by several local businesses who have donated time and funding to the effort.
