West Hartford Teacher Is 'Is Exceptionally Supportive Of Her Students'

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Great teachers matter. In West Hartford, we're fortunate to have teachers like Julie O’Reilly.

This submission comes from Jacqueline Zimmer who nominated her son's middle school Quest Gifted/Talented Program teacher, Julie O’Reilly of West Hartford.

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Julie O’Reilly is hands down the most engaged teacher I have ever encountered. She is an extremely supportive teacher who goes well above board to identify a student’s particular interests. She then nurtures those interests by looking for creative ways to stimulate curiosity in the student. She provides many, many unique learning opportunities for students and pushes her students to be creative in their demonstration of having learned a topic. She even hosts a large Type III fair where the kids get to have their own booth and present their research. As a parent, I was so excited to be able to attend these! To see what all the students have chosen to study, to stop at their booths and talk to them about their projects. To hear student after student excitedly talk about their research is a testament to Julie O’Reilly. That she could ignite this kind of passion for learning in so many students is astounding. It seems to me that other teachers could benefit from meeting with her to understand how she does this despite having so many students and an enormous workload. Julie O’Reilly needs to be recognized and rewarded for how special her connection to students and parents is.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

She is exceptionally supportive of her students, helps them believe in themselves and electrifies their learning by igniting passion and confidence.
