West Hartford Teen, 12-Year-Old Passenger Injured in Motorcycle Crash

The boys sustained significant injuries in the crash, according to police, who responded to two motorcycle-car collisions this weekend.

A 17-year-old driving a motorcycle and his 12-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital with significant injuries following a collision with a car on Friday night.

The injuries were not considered to be life threatening, according to West Hartford Police Captain Jeffrey Rose.

David Robles, 17, of West Hartford, was driving a motorcycle north on Oakwood Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Robles had a 12-year-old boy with him as a passenger.

The motorcycle collided with a car that was also traveling northbound and was turning left on to Richard Street.

Rose said the impact caused both boys to be thrown off their motorcycle and on to the pavement. Both Robles and the passenger sustained significant injuries and were transported to Hartford Hospital.

The driver of the car, Daniel Carlos, 56, of West Hartford, was uninjured in the crash, according to Rose.

The Yamaha motorcycle (dirt bike) was heavily damaged, while the 2011 Toyota Camry had damage on its left side, according to Rose.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police also responded to a motorcycle-car collision on Saturday night.

Thomas Hinman, 33, of Burlington, was taken to the hospital with injuries after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car in the area of Albany Avenue and Mountain Brook Road around 9:54 p.m. on Saturday.

Police said the motorcycle was traveling west on Albany Avenue in the left travel lane and the car, which was operated by Richard Casiello, 23, of North Reading, Mass., was traveling east on Albany Avenue in the left travel lane.

Police are investigating to determine which vehicle crossed the solid yellow lines.

Hinman sustained scrapes and a serious injury to his lower left leg and was transported to Saint Francis Hospital. The 1999 Ducati Monster he was operating sustained heavy damage.

Casiello was uninjured in the crash and the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt he was driving sustained heavy damage to driver side, according to police.
