From there, the pitchers took over the game. Nemirow was brilliant in relief for West Hartford, going 6 innings, yielding 4 hits while striking out 3. He was aided by some unbelievable defense from Paul Wilson, who recorded 6 assists from 3rd base, and Drew Hungerford, who snare a hot shot down the line at first with runners on 1st and 2nd to keep the Pirates off the board. Will Jackson aided as well, making 2 catches in RF, and Charlie Murray made a big catch in LF with 2 Pirates runners on. Meanwhile, the Pirates’ Hayden Knutson was equally as tough, limiting the Canes to 2 hits over the next 4 innings to push the game into extras. In the 7th, the Canes pushed 2 runs across. A single by Patrick Baron started things. Then with one out, Jeter (3 for 4, 3B, 2RBI) tripled to the right center gap for a 6-5 lead, and Hungerford (2 for 3, 2RBI) singled sharply to center to plate Jeter with an insurance run. In the last of the 7th, Nemirow calmly retired the Pirates AAU team in the bottom of the 7th on 3 groundouts to complete the amazing comeback and send West Hartford to the championship game.

The Canes took on tournament favorite and undefeated  Newtown in the final.  The game featured the teams’ respective aces, Luke O’Brien of Newtown and Chase Jeter of West Hartford. Neither disappointed. Scoreless after 2 innings, Newtown jumped ahead 1-0 in the 3rd.
