West Hartford Trio Earns Prestigious Scholarships
Three high school grads named National Merit Scholars this month.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Three recent high school graduates in West Hartford were named National Merit Scholarship winners this month on their way to college in the fall.
West Hartford grads named merit scholars were:
• David C. Gardner, a Hall High School graduate planning to attend Boston University and study engineering.

• Emma Y. Kingwall, a Hall High School graduate planning to attend Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and study medicine.
• Alexander Q. Rosenthal, a Conard High School graduate planning to attend Boston University and study aerospace engineering.

Earlier this month, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced the West Hartford contingent was among more than 2,600 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities.
The trio was part of 17 named in Connecticut.
These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2022 competition to about 4,000.
