AC Petersen’s defeats Exchange 5-1
AC Petersen scores four runs in the third to break open the game and then stayed in command for a 5-1 victory over Exchange to take sole possession of third place.
The game started scoreless over the first two innings as Tyler Correia from ACP and Matt Beazoglou from Exchange stymied the opposing batters. In the top of the third, ACP broke the game open as the lead-off batter; Peter Simplicio was hit by a pitch. A double by Correia, a smash single by Andrew Nicklas (2 for 3), another double by Tim Simplicio (2 for 3) and then another double by Bryan Renker scored the four runs. With a lead off hit by Brendan Begley and three walks to Aidan Shea, Jonathan Brea and Neil Gustafson the score stood at 4-1, one out and the bases loaded. Bryan Renker was brought in for relief and immediately snuffed out the rally with some defensive help from Josh Kursman (2B) and Colin Fitzsimonds (3B). In the top of the fourth inning, ACP’s Sam Kursman singled by taking an outside pitch to the opposite field, but ACP was not able to mount a rally. In the fifth inning, Fitzsimonds added an insurance run with a two strike home run deep over the left field fence and Renker and Peter Simplicio finished the game on the mound. For Exchange, Brendan O’Meara had a double and all three hurlers Beazoglou, Sean O’Meara and Begley pitched well, but in the end ACP was able to make the difference in the bottom of the third.
