Landmark Community Theatre prepares it’s summer main stage production, Disney’s Mary Poppins.
Landmark’s summer production is one for the whole family, Disney’s MARY POPPINS, showing July 18, 19, 25, 26, August 1 @ 8pm and July 20, 27, August 2, 3 @ 2pm. A Musical based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film with original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and book by Julian Fellowes with new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
Join Bert, jack-of-all trades, as he introduces you to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Classic songs such as “Chim Chim Cher-ee”, “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” will take you and your family on a magical adventure across rainy London rooftops!
Disney’s Mary Poppins is directed by Jimmy Donohue with Jim Luurtsema and John Dressel directing music and Jennifer Bunger providing choreography. The production will open on July 18th and run through August 3rd, 2014 for a total of 9 performances.
Heading up the cast is Katie Brunetto, playing the role of the sweet, but stern Mary Poppins. Katie was most recently seen as Inga in the well received TOH production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein. Kathleen Green and Ben Stone-Zelman team up to play featured siblings. This charming duo perfectly capture the roles of Jane and Michael Banks. Also showcased is veteran actor, Randy Ronco, who shines as the multi-talented and gregarious Bert.
LCT is the first CT theatre to showcase a production of Disney’s Mary Poppins for the stage. True to both the Walt Disney Film and the original P.L. Travers books, the stage adaptation features favorites such as “Spoonful of Sugar,” “Feed the Birds,” “Jolly Holiday,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “Step in Time” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” along with a wealth of new and reimagined songs and lyrics that are sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of old and young alike.
Mary Poppins is the practically perfect nanny who magically appears to the Banks’ household precisely when she is needed to mend the broken family and teach them some important life lessons along the way. While she brings a spit spot attitude of order into the lives of the Banks children, Jane and Michael, she also brings a sense of adventure, taking them on magical outings and showing them that “anything can happen if you let it.”
Treat your family to a live production of Disney’s Mary Poppins, a magical Broadway musical, showing July 18, 19, 25, 26, August 1 @ 8pm and July 20, 27, August 2, 3 @ 2pm at the historic Thomaston Opera House in Thomaston CT.
