Last week's question was "What Is in This Location Today?" Just minutes after photo was posted, Rick Liftig was ready with his answer. "Shoe Town was at the corner of New Britain Avenue and South Main Street. The building is the present home of 'Jake's Wayback Burgers.' If I had to guess, I would say that the shoe store was in business from 1960 until the late 1970s," Liftig commented.
Lisa Peterson also remembered Shoe Town at the corner of New Britain Ave. and South Main, and recalled shopping for shoes there as a teen in the 1970s. Susan Wiley said that although the space has been reconfigured a bit, "that's now Jake's Wayback Burgers. I think I remember the shoe store, so that must have been late 80's-ish; then it was Harstan's Jewelers. There was a men's clothing store, maybe Anderson-Little, on the corner/S.Main side where the AT&T store is now."

Jeff Murray thought the photo had been taken in the early to mid 1960s. "You can see the roof of what used to be IHOP in the background," he wrote. To that Liftig added, "and I spy - a mid 1960s Pontiac (not a GTO, but close), an old (1950 something) Studebaker and a 1960 Cadillac fin on the right."
The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society did not provide the year the photo was taken, but did confirm that the building was located at the corner of South Main St. and New Britain Ave., and today is occupied by Jake's Wayback Burgers.
