Windsor Man Charged For April 15 Robbery/Assault: WeHa PD

The West Hartford Police Department and state police took the 21-year-old suspect into custody Tuesday.

WEST HARTFORD/WINDSOR, CT — Local and state police Tuesday charged a 21-year-old Windsor man in connection with an April 15 armed robbery and assault in West Hartford.

According to the West Hartford Police Department late Tuesday afternoon, Windsor resident Devon Sutton, 21, is facing multiple charges associated with an incident last month, among other charges.

As part of an investigation between the West Hartford Police Department's detective division and the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force, Sutton was found on Broad Street in Windsor Tuesday, according to the WHPD.

Police said he was safely taken into custody following the execution of an arrest warrant and he was found Tuesday to be in possession of a firearm and narcotics.

According to the WHPD, the task force charged Sutton with: weapons in a motor vehicle; possession of a sawed-off shotgun; possession of a controlled substance; and possession with intent to sell.

Because of the Windsor charges, Sutton was being held on $250,000 bond.

Regarding the West Hartford incident April 15, the WHPD said Sutton will be charged with several other offenses.

Those include: first-degree robbery; fifth-degree larceny; first-degree threatening; conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery; conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny; and conspiracy to commit third-degree assault.

Police said Sutton also has another active arrest warrant with another police agency for third-degree assault.

West Hartford police said the April 15 incident happened at about 3:53 p.m. that day, with officers receiving a report of an armed robbery on St. James Street.

During that incident, the victim contacted and met an individual "known to him," police said, along with others he did not know.

It was during this meeting, police said, when the victim was threatened with a firearm, punched in the face and forced to electronically transfer money.

Police said the victim was released, but he was threatened to not report the incident to police.

According to the WHPD, the victim did sustain minor injuries due to the assault, but refused medical treatement.

Police did not indicate if the suspect was known or not known to the victim.
