Nearly 1,200 Still Without Power In West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — A total of 1,182 West Haven homes or nearly 5 percent of the town is still powerless, according to the latest information from United Illuminating Co.

United Illuminating Co. officials have vowed to have power fully restored by the end of Saturday.

Residents voting by absentee ballot in Tuesday’s presidential primary are advised to bring their completed ballots to City Hall instead of mailing them and to insert them into the ballot drop boxes at the Main Street and Savin Avenue entrances.

According to state officials, a glitch in the secretary of the state’s office has slowed the process for cities and towns mailing absentee ballots to registered voters.

The deadline for cities and towns to accept absentee ballots is at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The fast-approaching deadline has prompted Mayor Nancy R. Rossi and City Clerk Patricia C. Horvath to encourage West Haven residents to drop off their absentee ballots at City Hall instead of mailing them, which can take extra time, to ensure their votes are counted in the primary.
Residents can also vote at the polls, Horvath said.

Polling places are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the following districts:

• 1st District, Elks Lodge 1537, 265 Main St.
• 2nd District, Savin Rock School, 50 Park St.
• 3rd District, Washington School, 369 Washington Ave.
• 4th District, St. Paul Church, 898 First Ave.
• 5th District, Simchat Yisrael, 870 First Ave.
• 6th District, Forest School, 95 Burwell Road.
• 7th District, Molloy School, 255 Meloy Road.
• 8th District, Mackrille School, 806 Jones Hill Road.
• 9th District, Haley School, 148 South St.
• 10th District, Pagels School, 26 Benham Hill Road.
