10 Displaced After Separate Fires In West Haven

Two families were displaced from their homes after separate fires in West Haven over the weekend.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two families, consisting of 10 people, were displaced from their homes after separate fires in West Haven on Sunday, according to officials.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to a family of seven – five adults and two children – after a fire on Wendham Street, along with a family of three adults after a fire on Meadowbrook Court.

“The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more,” officials wrote in a news release. “The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire.

“Red Cross caseworkers will connect with those affected in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan. The Red Cross is able to provide assistance through the generosity of our donors and the commitment of our volunteers.”

The New Haven Register reports the fire on Wendham Street happened around 5:25 a.m. No injuries were reported.
