A stabbing investigation closed part of the West Haven Green.
WEST HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating a stabbing that took place on the West Haven Green and sent two people to the hospital on Monday night, according to police.
Police responded around 9:15 p.m. on June 8 to the area of Campbell Avenue and Center Street on the report of a stabbing, according to Sgt. Scott Allard.
Allard said officers met with a victim, who was suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen.

Allard said a second call then came in reporting an assault at the gazebo with a stabbing.

Another victim reported that he had sustained a cut to his face and was bleeding, according to Allard. The victim provided officers with information regarding the incident and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, according to Allard.
Allard said an investigation found that both victims were inside the gazebo with an unknown woman when an unknown man approached them.
At some point during the encounter, Allard said an argument or disagreement ensued, and the suspect stabbed the first victim and slashed the second victim.
Following the assault, the suspect walked away with the unknown woman who was “pushing a cart with some miscellaneous items in it,” according to Allard.
“At this time, it appears all parties involved may be part of the homeless community, and the incident appears to be isolated with no known ongoing threat to the general public,” Allard wrote on Tuesday morning. “However, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings while traveling throughout the city. If you observe activity or behavior that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, avoid the area or individual and contact police if necessary.”
Both victims had surgery and remained hospitalized as of Tuesday morning, according to Allard.
“Detectives are actively pursuing all available leads in this investigation and are working diligently to identify and locate the suspect responsible for this assault,” Allard wrote.
