5 Families Displaced After Fire In West Haven
The families were displaced from their homes after a fire in West Haven, according to officials.
WEST HAVEN, CT — Five people were displaced from their homes after a fire over the weekend in West Haven, according to officials.
Crews from all three fire districts responded to a structure fire on Washington Avenue between Center Street and Main Street, according to a post on the West Haven Professional Firefighters- IAFF Local 1198 union’s Facebook page.
The American Red Cross is helping five families – five adults – after the fire, according to a news release.

Officials said the Red Cross responders included Susan Shaw, Nelson Santos, Doug Bourdan, Sheri MacKenzie and Carolyn Breckel.
“The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more,” officials wrote in a news release. “The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire.”
