Sheila enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up on Noble St in West Haven with loving parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and multiple cousins. It was a special place full of family and love.

She attended Southern Connecticut State University where she obtained a degree in Early Childhood Education.

In 1977 she met the love of her life Walter (Wally) Del Monte who lived just across the schoolyard on Blohm St. In 1979 she and Wally married and shortly thereafter made their home in the Morningside borough of Milford.

She taught the second grade at Seth Haley School in West Haven for 29 years. She enjoyed helping her students learn not only through the curriculum but engaging in fun activities like her “Antique of the Week.” Many of her fellow teachers went on to become life-long friends of hers whom she would still get together with to catch up and reminisce.

Sheila always loved to be near the water and especially enjoyed relaxing at the beach. Being so close to the shore in her Morningside home gave her great happiness. She would look forward to any opportunity to enjoy a day on the beach at Gulf Beach or West Haven at the beaches she grew up on.

Wally and Sheila also loved to travel whether it was nearby to Lake George, Maine, Boston, or her favorite, Cape Cod. They also travelled to many other places including Alaska, Disney World, and three trips to Ireland starting with their honeymoon.

Sheila was also a doting aunt; both she and Wally created so many wonderful memories for her nieces and nephews that will be cherished for years.

Sheila was also an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetables daily. She took great pride in the beauty of her garden.

Her home was a welcoming place for family and friends, and she was a wonderful hostess, hosting many holidays and family gatherings throughout the years. She truly found joy in giving joy to others, particularly her husband and family.

Sheila will be forever missed by all who were lucky enough to have her in their life, and she will live on in their hearts forever.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, May, 19 2026, at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford.
