WEST HAVEN, CT — A West Haven teacher is being recognized on a national stage for helping students succeed in the classroom.

Ortoleva stood out for his student-centered approach and strong use of i-Ready assessment data to tailor instruction, helping meet students where they are and support meaningful academic growth, according to officials.

Ortoleva is among only 26 teachers chosen this year from a field of 170 educators nationwide.

“Being named an Extraordinary Educator means a great deal to me because it recognizes the heart I put into teaching math every day,” Ortoleva said. “Seeing my students excited to learn math day in and day out is what truly keeps me going. Their curiosity, growth, and confidence remind me why I chose this profession in the first place. This recognition affirms my commitment to creating a classroom where students feel motivated, supported, and empowered to take risks in their learning.”

As part of the program, Ortoleva joins a yearlong national professional learning community and attend a leadership summit, where they’ll collaborate with top educators from across the country.

Honorees also participate in Curriculum Associates' annual Extraordinary Educators Leadership Summit, where they share insights and amplify their impact in classrooms nationwide.

“Our Extraordinary Educators inspire us with their dedication to high-quality instruction and student success,” said Kelly Sia, CEO of Curriculum Associates. "We are proud to recognize their work and to walk alongside them as they continue to lead in their classrooms and communities.”

The 2026 cohort represents a range of roles, including classroom instruction, student support, and enrichment.

Educators were selected through a “rigorous review process involving Curriculum Associates staff and an advisory panel of company leaders and Extraordinary Educator alumni, ensuring diverse perspectives and fairness,” according to the news release.
