WEST HAVEN, CT — Due to expected rain, Saturday’s dedication of 50 new bricks on the Veterans Walk of Honor and eight new names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Bradley Point Park has been postponed to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
On Wednesday evening, all veterans are invited to participate in the public ceremony, which will include a flag-raising, an invocation and a wreath-laying, as well as remarks by Mayor Dorinda Borer and West Haven Veterans Council President Dave Ricci.
In November 2006, the Veterans Council began the first of 18 campaigns selling bricks to memorialize vets on the 100-yard Walk of Honor.
About 3,150 bricks, which have charcoal lettering for personalized messages, have been installed to date.
REMINDER: West Haven’s Memorial Day parade will take place rain or shine.
The patriotic procession will step off at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 25.
Grand Marshal George “Butch” Treat, a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, will lead the more than 50-unit procession of veterans, dignitaries and bands along the 1 ½-mile parade route, which follows Campbell Avenue from Captain Thomas Boulevard to Center Street.
