2 Displaced After Apartment Fire In West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two people were displaced from their homes after a fire Sunday in West Haven, according to officials.

The American Red Cross is helping two families – two adults – after a fire on Main Street, according to a news release.

The New Haven Register reports the fire happened around 6:15 a.m. at an apartment in the 300 block of Main Street.

A firefighter was injured and was released after being evaluated at Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to the Register.

The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families' immediate needs. Red Cross responders included Ken Sneider, Paul Bankowski, Ginger Flynn and Melissa Hunter.

"The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more," officials wrote in the news release. "The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire."
