1. West Haven's Bond Rating Receives Upgrade From S&P (patch.com) — West Haven residents are getting encouraging financial news as S&P Global has upgraded the city's long-term bond rating from A- to A, with a stable outlook. Officials credit stronger financial management, timely audits, and progress since state oversight ended, while ongoing coastal resilience and infrastructure projects aim to protect the tax base and support future development.
2. West Haven eyes sale of building that houses senior center, child development program (ctpost.com) — West Haven officials are moving to sell the Robert A. Johnson Community Center on Noble Street, while keeping the West Haven Child Development Center there for at least 10 years under any new owner. The city plans to relocate the senior center to a new community center at the former Anna V. Molloy School on Meloy Road, expected to open October 22 with expanded space for seniors, youth, and veterans.
3. Panel gives study its OK (westhavenvoice.com) — West Haven is poised for a $2.5 million state-funded upgrade to its downtown, with planned improvements to the historic Green, Curtiss Place plaza, and surrounding streetscapes. The project aims to boost foot traffic, support small businesses through a new microgrant program, and create more inviting public spaces, with implementation expected to roll out over about two years.
4. Committee taps Frosolone for Italian honor (westhavenvoice.com) — West Haven's Italian Heritage Committee and Mayor Dorinda Borer will honor longtime civic leader and business owner Paul M. Frosolone as the city's 2026 Italian American of the Year at a City Hall ceremony Oct. 9. Residents are invited to celebrate his decades of volunteerism, leadership in the Italian-American Civic Association, and deep roots in West Haven's Italian community during the noon event.
5. UNH breaks ground for business school (westhavenvoice.com) — A new four-story Pompea College of Business building is now under construction at the University of New Haven's main campus off Campbell Avenue, which city leaders call a "game changer" for West Haven. The $45 million facility will feature high-tech labs, a trading room, and space for local business partnerships, while generating an estimated $600,000 in city building permit fees.
