VA awards $1.312 million to organizations working to strengthen community-based suicide prevention efforts in Connecticut (va.gov) β West Haven's VA system is helping direct over $1.3 million in new federal grants to two Connecticut groups that work on suicide prevention for veterans, with funds arriving at the start of fiscal 2027. Local veterans and families can expect expanded community-based mental health outreach, crisis support, and training programs aimed at reaching those not already in VA care.

Connecticut man who attempted to join ISIS sentenced to 92 months (bristolpress.com) β A 29-year-old West Haven resident has been sentenced to more than seven and a half years in federal prison, plus lifetime supervision, for attempting to support ISIS and plotting to travel overseas to fight for the group. Court records describe years of online extremist activity, a failed attempt to leave via boat from Stonington, and even a later handwritten plan for an uprising inside his detention facility.

See the full list of winners (ctpost.com) β A West Haven resident is among Connecticut's biggest lottery winners from September, claiming $250,000 on a scratch ticket bought in North Haven. The month's top prize was a $1 million win for a Jewett City player, and the lottery also released a long list of other six-figure winners from across the state.
