1. West Haven Schools Awarded State Grant Aimed At Boosting Student Attendance (patch.com) — West Haven schools are getting a $200,000 boost from Connecticut's LEAP program to tackle chronic absenteeism through trained home visitors who work directly with local families. The grant is part of a broader statewide effort that has already helped cut absenteeism and disciplinary incidents, aiming to keep more West Haven students consistently in class and better connected to their school community.
2. West Haven's top-paid worker made $311K in 2025 — three times his base salary (ctinsider.com) — West Haven residents can now see exactly how much city employees earned in 2025, including a detective whose total pay reached $311,000, largely from overtime and extra-duty work. Police officers made up most of the top earners, while the mayor's pay ranked far lower once overtime is counted. The report also ties these figures to recent state oversight and a new police contract.
3. VA awards $26,043 in grants for adaptive sports programs in Connecticut (va.gov) — West Haven is the dateline for a new VA announcement that $26,043 in federal grants is going to a Connecticut group offering adaptive sports for veterans and service members. The money is part of a larger $16 million national effort to expand programs like wheelchair softball, cycling, and skiing. Local veterans in and around West Haven could see more options to stay active and connected.
4. Notre Dame-West Haven races under the lights in New Hampshire (ctpost.com) — Notre Dame–West Haven cross-country runners just tested themselves in a unique nighttime race under the lights at New Hampshire's Cheshire Fairgrounds, finishing sixth out of 23 boys teams. Juniors Dan Carone and Gavin Eddy led the Green Knights and described the hilly, partly dark course—complete with a stretch through a barn—as both challenging and fun.
