Arrest Made In Fatal West Haven Hit-And-Run: Report
Retired Bridgeport Police Officer Joseph M. Procaccini, 73, was killed while walking on Derby Avenue in West Haven on Jan. 9, police said.
WEST HAVEN, CT — A 24-year-old Orange man was arrested earlier this month in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in West Haven in January that killed a retired Bridgeport police officer.
Arrested on charges of tampering with evidence and evading responsibility was Justin T. Proto, writes the Republican-American newspaper.
Proto was driving when he hit 73-year-old Joseph M. Procaccini of North Haven, who was walking across Derby Avenue near Forest Road at about 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 9.

Police said Proto fled the scene of the crash and later abandoned the vehicle.
Proto surrendered to West Haven police on April 1 and was released after posting bond on bail of $25,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 2.
