WEST HAVEN, CT — The press box at Frank Biondi Softball Field on the West Haven High School campus will be named for Thomas “Tinker” Blake in a May 4 ceremony at 6:45 p.m. right before a home softball game.
All are welcome to attend and honor Tinker, a 1974 WHHS grad and lifelong Westie.
When it comes to sports in West Haven—you name it, he's been involved in it. He was known as the voice of the WHHS girls softball team, serving for at least a dozen years as the game announcer from the time the team’s press box was built and while his two daughters played on the team. He also announced for all SCC championship games and CIAC state championship games for softball, which have been hosted on the WHHS field for the past 15 years.
Blake, who was diagnosed with multiple systems atrophy a few years ago, has also been involved in the West Haven Penalty Box Club, West Haven Youth Hockey, the West Haven Twilight League - Amateur Baseball, and the WHHS Athletic Hall of Fame. He also oversaw the creation of the West Haven Football Alumni Association in 2009.
