Borer, Lepper Unanimously Endorsed By West Haven Committee

Incumbent State Representative Dorinda Borer and Democratic Registrar of Voters Sherri Lepper both received unanimous endorsements.

Press release from the West Haven Democratic Town Committee: Incumbent State Representative Dorinda Borer and Democratic Registrar of Voters Sherri Lepper both received unanimous endorsements from the West Haven Democratic Town Committee at their virtual Zoom meeting on Thursday night.

Representative Borer was first elected to the general assembly in a special election in 2017 and chairs the legislative Committee on Veteran Affairs and is a member of the Environment and Public Health Committees. She has been successful in getting state funding for local projects such as the replacement of tidal gates at the mouth of the Cove River, funding to raise Beach Street and grants to help and support West Haven’s youth and PTA’s to name a few. Borer was nominated by City Councilwoman Chrystal Fanelli and committee member Brandon Patterson.

“Dorinda Borer works tirelessly for our residents and is dedicated to the betterment of West Haven. She is a true public servant and our community looks forward to her re-election and her continued legislative success for another term in Hartford,” said Democratic Chairman Michael Last following the meeting.

“I want to thank Mike Last and the entire Democratic Town Committee for their continued faith and support. I am incredibly proud to be a resident of the State of Connecticut where the compassion and courage during this very challenging and emotional time has been nothing short of remarkable. It would be my honor to serve our great state and my hometown of West Haven again,” remarked Borer after receiving the endorsement.

Sherri Lepper is finishing her first term as the Democratic Registrar, first being elected in 2016. She is a State Certified Municipal Registrar and has been involved in the election process for decades. The Registrar’s office is responsible for running local primaries and elections and to keep accurate statistical and voter information. Lepper was nominated by City Councilman Robert Bruneau and Council Chairman Ron Quagliani.

“Sherri and her staff have really transformed the Registrar’s Office into a well-run and very efficient operation. She works well with people and is always fair and honest. She works on behalf of all the voters, not just democrats. She is an asset to our party," added Last.

“I am very honored to be the endorsed candidate for the Democratic Registrar of Voters for a second term. Our offices work very well with one another and I am looking forward again to working with ALL the Voters and maintaining smooth elections," Lepper said following the meeting.

Both Borer and Lepper nominations were seconded by, and received strong endorsements, from Mayor Nancy Rossi.

Earlier in the week, delegates from the West Haven Democratic Town Committee participated in virtual conventions for the other state legislative seats. State Representative Michael DiMassa was unanimously endorsed for a third term representing the 116-assembly district. State Senator James Maroney was also unanimously endorsed for a second term to represent the 14th senatorial district which includes West Haven, Milford, Orange and Woodbridge.

Milford Alderman and attorney Tony Sutton was unanimously chosen to run in the 117th district which comprises of West Haven, Milford and Orange. Sutton will challenge incumbent Charles Ferraro. Senator Gary Winfield garnered most of delegates at his convention and easily won the party endorsement for another term representing the 10th district in the State Senate, which includes a large portion of New Haven and West Haven.
