Catholic School In West Haven To Close

Officials announced the school will close at the end of the current academic year.

WEST HAVEN, CT — After serving students and the community for nearly 55 years, Our Lady of Victory School in West Haven will close at the end of the current school year due to financial struggles and diminishing enrollment, officials announced on Thursday evening. The school serves students from Pre-K through eighth grade.

In a letter to the school community, Fr. Kevin Dillon, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Parish, said the decision to close the school was made after a “very thorough school financial review” was recently completed.

“This difficult decision was made as a result of serious financial obligations that could not be met, made more problematic by a diminishing enrollment of 94 students,” Dillon said. “Considering these two significant factors, the future viability of the school could not be supported.

“It is with sadness in my heart that I made this announcement. Our Lady of Victory School, which is almost 55 years old, has served our community and its students extremely well. The financial resources to continue its operation are simply not available.”

Although Our Lady of Victory School is closing, Dillon advised families to consider other nearby Catholic schools, including St. Lawrence School which is only 2 miles away in West Haven. He also said that the Our Lady of Victory School staff will help the students with the transition.
