Cohen Defeats Weinstein In West Haven Republican Primary Election
Former City Councilman Barry Lee Cohen challenged endorsed candidate Paige Weinstein in the Republican Primary Election on Tuesday.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Barry Lee Cohen has defeated endorsed candidate Paige Weinstein in the Republican Primary election on Tuesday, according to the New Haven Register.
Cohen, who narrowly lost to incumbent Democratic Mayor Nancy Rossi in the 2021 election, successfully challenged Weinstein, who received the Republican Town Committee’s endorsement in July.
The Register reports Weinstein sent Cohen a text conceding the election.

As a result of the victory, Cohen will be the Republican candidate on the ballot in the municipal election in November. He has also been endorsed by the Independent Party.
The New Haven Register previously reported that Weinstein could still be on the ballot in November for a newly formed party called Westies for Change that has qualified for the ballot.

Former Republican Planning and Zoning Commissioner Steven Mullins, who qualified for the primary but decided not to participate, intends to run for mayor as a write-in candidate.
State Rep. Dorinda Borer is the Democratic candidate for mayor. She received the Democratic Town Committee’s endorsement in July and didn’t face a primary challenge.
