Convicted Felon Arrested On Gun Charge: West Haven Police

A driver, who is a convicted felon, was found to be in the possession of a loaded gun after a traffic stop, according to police.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A convicted felon was recently arrested on a gun charge after a traffic stop in West Haven, according to police.

Police saw a black Volkswagen GTI in the area of Campbell Avenue and First Avenue around 10 p.m. on Dec. 14 that had heavily tinted windows, no front license plate and was found to be unregistered, according to officials.

Police said the Volkswagen also fit the description of a vehicle that fled from officers during a past incident.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted and the driver, identified as 36-year-old Johnny Milton, was found to have an outstanding warrant out of West Haven for engaging police in pursuit, according to police.

Police said Milton was taken into custody on the warrant and a loaded .45-caliber handgun was found under the driver’s seat.

Milton was found to be a convicted felon that prohibits him from possessing firearms, according to police. Milton also had a prior conviction for criminal weapons possession, police said.

In addition to the outstanding warrant, Milton was charged with criminal possession of a pistol/revolver, criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition/defense weapon, illegal possession of weapon in motor vehicle, improper use – marker, license, registration, failure to insure vehicle, operating unregistered motor vehicle, failure to display plates/inserts, illegal operation of vehicle without tint inspection, and improper turn/stop – no signal. He was released after posting a $100,000 bond with a court date of Jan. 4, according to state judicial records.
