Convicted Felon Found With Stolen Gun, Drugs During Traffic Stop: West Haven PD

A convicted felon was found to be in the possession of a stolen gun during a traffic stop in West Haven, according to police.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A convicted felon was found to be in the possession of a stolen gun during a traffic stop Sunday night in West Haven, according to police.

A patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a black BMW after a violation on Front Avenue around 7:20 p.m. on July 14, according to police.

Police said during the investigation, an officer saw the driver – identified as Javon James – try to conceal a gun under the seat.

“Having already established the operator was a convicted felon and was not permitted to be in possession of any firearms both Officers swiftly apprehended James and placed him under arrest without further incident,” police wrote in a news release.

The gun was confirmed to be stolen out of Milford, according to police.

James was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, stealing a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and numerous motor vehicle and drug-related offenses, according to police.
