Denny’s Closes Abruptly In West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — The Denny’s restaurant on Saw Mill Road in West Haven has abruptly closed, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reported three signs posted on the doors of the longtime diner at 487 Sawmill Rd. (across from the I-95 Exit 42 exit/on ramp) said it was “closed permanently for business” as of 2 p.m. on Monday.

The sign also invited customers to visit the Denny’s locations in Danbury and New London, according to the New Haven Register.

“For more than 65 years, Denny’s has been bringing people together over great food,” reads a post on the Denny’s Facebook page. “It’s the place where people can relax and be themselves while enjoying classic American comfort food and everyday value.

“Whether it's appetizers, breakfast, lunch or dinner, we pride ourselves in serving our guests the diner food they love including favorites like Moons Over My Hammy, Sizzlin’ Skillets, hand-dipped Milk Shakes, 100% Beef Burgers and the world-famous Build Your Own Grand Slam.”

The slogan used on the Denny’s website is that it’s “Open for Anything.”

“Denny's is the place that is always open for you to be who you want, with the people you want, over the food you want…whenever you want,” reads the post. “We celebrate the inherent creativity of our food and the uniqueness of all people. So, come as you are. Enjoy pancakes for dinner or burgers for breakfast. You are always welcome at America’s Diner, where we are Open for Anything.”

The last post on the West Haven Denny’s Facebook page was in 2017, but it last received reviews from the public in May and June. Overall, the West Haven Denny’s received 3.7 out of 5 stars based on reviews from 259 people posted to the Facebook page.

There are currently eight Denny’s locations remaining in Connecticut.
