DUI Driver Crashes Into Cruiser, Injures Officer: West Haven PD

Police say the crash occurred while a traffic stop was being conducted on Friday night.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Police say a New London woman was operating under the influence when she crashed into a police cruiser Friday night in West Haven. The officer suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to police.

The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. when police were on Derby Avenue performing a motor vehicle stop. Police said as the officer was alongside the passenger side of his patrol vehicle, a vehicle traveling on Derby Avenue collided into the rear of the police cruiser. The impact pushed the police cruiser into the side of the officer who had jumped to avoid further injuries, according to police.

The operator, Deonna White, 39, was found to be operating under the influence and arrested, police said.

White, of New London, was charged with operating while intoxicated and failure to stay in established lane.
