Sewage Discharged Into Marsh After Equipment Failure In West Haven: Officials
Between 500 and 1,000 gallons of sewage was discharged into a nearby marsh after an equipment failure at a pumping station, officials said.
WEST HAVEN, CT — A mechanical equipment failure caused a sewage backup at the city’s main pumping station on Blohm Street on Wednesday morning in West Haven, according to officials.
The equipment failure, which happened around 10 a.m., “discharged between 500 & 1,000 gallons of sewage into the nearby Old Field Creek salt marsh, which empties into Long Island Sound,” officials wrote in a post on the city’s Facebook page.
“The backup was resolved 45 minutes later by operators from the West Haven Water Pollution Control Plant,” the post reads. “As required, the city notified DEEP via an electronic bypass notice.
