Notre Dame High School Announces Five Students Recognized by National Merit Scholarship Corporation

WEST HAVEN, Conn. Notre Dame High School is proud to announce the academic accomplishments of five members of the Class of 2020.

Congratulations to Michael Consorte ‘20 of West Haven on being named a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist, and to Amit Chandra ‘20 of West Haven, Matthew Consorte ‘20 of West Haven, Jordan House ‘20 of Ansonia, and Jake Miller of Beacon Falls on receiving A Letter of Commendation from Notre Dame and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

About 1.5 million juniors from more than 21,000 high schools were entered into the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program after taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

As a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist, Michael Consorte represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors. During his tenure at ND, Michael has participated in Team ND and in GoGreenKnights.com video production team. He also plays on the varsity football team, tutors in the writing center, serves on the Leadership Team for ND’s service organization called Brothers Reaching Others, and plays intramurals. To date, Michael was recognized as a 2019 Governor’s Scholar Semifinalist, earned the Yale Book Award, the Notre Dame Freshman Spanish Award, and the Notre Dame Sophomore English Award.

Chandra, Matthew Consorte, House, and Miller are among the 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation that are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise; these Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students.

“We are extremely proud of these young men and hopeful that this recognition will broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue to pursue academic success,” said Notre Dame President Robert F. Curis. “They have achieved an excellent result on this difficult standardized test, moreover we are so proud of their fine qualities as young men of character, compassion, and confidence and we know they will be influencers and actors for the betterment of others in the years ahead.”
