Former West Haven Athletic Director Sentenced In Theft: Report
The former athletic director was accused of using a school district credit card for personal home improvement projects.
WEST HAVEN, CT — Former longtime West Haven High School Athletic Director Jon Capone was sentenced to three years of probation in connection with his use of a school district credit card for personal home improvement projects, according to the New Haven Register.
Capone was arrested in November 2020 after a lengthy investigation into the “alleged illegal use of Board of Education funds,” police said at the time. The investigation included “numerous interviews, analyzing thousands of pages of receipts, bills and executing a search warrant,” police said.
Police raided Capone’s home on Benham Hill Road in March 2020. He resigned as athletic director the previous month after initially being placed on administrative leave.

The Register reported that Capone was accused of charging more than $14,000 worth of items to the Board of Education’s Lowe’s account for his home renovation projects.
A receipt for nearly $1,000 worth of patio screens led to the investigation, which authorities believed was a years-long scheme, the Hartford Courant previously reported.

Capone, who pleaded no contest to a first-degree larceny charge, told the Register he made a “drastic mistake” and said he paid full restitution.
