Fugitive Nabbed After Fleeing from Police During Traffic Stop: West Haven PD

Police say the man, who also faces a DUI charge, was wanted as a fugitive from justice out of Wisconsin.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A man who was wanted as a fugitive from justice out of Wisconsin was arrested early Thursday morning following a motor vehicle stop in West Haven.

At about 1 a.m., West Haven Police stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Center Street.

As officers approached the vehicle, the operator accelerated and fled the scene, according to police.

Officers pursued and the operator stopped near 200 Oak Street where he was apprehended, police said.

Marcelino Caballero-Bonilla, 49, of 200 Oak Street in West Haven, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, engaging police in pursuit, interfering with police, along with multiple motor vehicle violations.

Caballero-Bonilla also had an active arrest warrant out of Wisconsin that is extraditable, police said. He was additionally charged with being a fugitive from justice and held on bond.
