West Haven, CT — West Haven Police Officer Michael Doyle remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit after being seriously injured in a crash on the Taconic State Parkway last week while participating in a motorcycle training class with the Yonkers, N.Y. Police Department.

“He remains in ICU and hopefully continuing progress on the road to recovery,” West Haven Police said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “Mike and his family have a long way ahead. We thank our Westie Community and support from around the country in sending well wishes.”

Doyle, an eight-year member of the department, was launched from his motorcycle onto the pavement when he was struck by a vehicle merging onto the parkway. He was participating in the training exercise with about 25 other police motorcycles.

Many community members then changed their Facebook profile photos to the shield in honor of Doyle.

The Yonkers Police Department recently produced and published a video on the training course that took place over a two-week period and dedicated it to Doyle.

“This video is dedicated to West Haven PD Police Officer Mike Doyle who was seriously injured during this school,” the intro reads on YouTube. “Mike is still recovering and he is a big Captain America fan. Thank you PO (Peter) Mullen for using your Go Pro and dedicating this video to Mike.”
