Injured West Haven Police Officer Thanks Community for Role in Recovery

The police department provides an update on Officer Mike Doyle, who was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in New York over the summer.

WEST HAVEN, CT — West Haven Police Officer Mike Doyle continues to recover from a serious motorcycle accident this past June, which saw him airlifted to a trauma center with extensive injuries, and police are hoping that he will soon return to the department.

Doyle, an eight-year veteran, was injured in a crash on the Taconic State Parkway while participating in a motorcycle training class with the Yonkers, N.Y. Police Department on June 22. He was launched from his motorcycle onto the pavement when he was struck by a vehicle merging onto the parkway.

West Haven Police provided the following update in a post on Facebook:

“WHPD wanted to update our community on an incident involving one of our officers. Back on June 22nd of this year. Officer Mike Doyle, an eight-year member of the department, was launched from his police motorcycle onto the pavement when he was participating in a training exercise with 25 other police motorcycles on a New York roadway.
“Mike was air lifted to a trauma center with some extensive injuries that required a host of medical procedures. Well his fellow officers along with Mike, his wife Kathy, (pic below) and his family wanted to thank you.
“Thank all of you, that helped with donations, attending benefits, prayers and thoughts which helped in his recovery. There are so many people and agencies to thank we would fill this page. The outpouring of community support for Mike and his family will always be remembered. Hopefully Mike will return soon to his second family here at WHPD. We thank you all again!”
