Man Charged With Assaulting Child: West Haven Police

Police say the child was taken to the emergency room after suffering from "serious injuries."

WEST HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man is accused of assaulting a child in West Haven, according to police.

Esteban Nieves, 22, of Arch Street in New Haven, was arrested in connection to a physical abuse case that was initiated on Feb. 25, according to West Haven Police.

Police said the child was staying at the Econo Lodge, 370 Highland Street, on the evening of Feb. 25 and was taken to an emergency room while suffering from serious injuries.

“Trauma Physicians concluded that the injuries are consistent with an assault,” police said in a post on Facebook. “Detectives were assigned and developed information to substantiate criminal involvement.”

Nieves was arrested on a warrant and charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and violation of probation. He was held on bond.
