Man Tried to Steal Fire Truck While Firefighters Responded to Medical Call: West Haven Police
The man, who was found to be in the possession of a large hunting knife, activated the sirens and tried to put the truck in motion: PD

WEST HAVEN, CT — A 63-year-old West Haven man is accused of trying to steal a fire truck while firefighters were inside a residence for a medical call, according to police.
West Haven Police responded to a Main Street address at about 5:40 p.m. on Jan. 4 to assist the fire department.
Arriving officers arrested Wayne Gagne, of Savin Avenue, who police say had to be forcefully pulled from the fire truck by firefighters.

Firefighters told police that while they were inside the residence for a medical call, they heard the sirens activated on the parked fire truck.
Firefighters looked and saw a man inside the truck’s cab. They came outside to find Gagne sitting inside the cab of the truck attempting to put in motion, according to police.

Police said firefighters had to forcefully pull Gagne from the truck and held him until officers arrived on the scene.
Gagne was found to be in the possession of a large hunting knife with a blade that was about 8 inches, according to police.
Gagne was charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree larceny and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was held on bond.
