‘Massive’ Wave Of Dirt Bikes, ATVs Drive Through West Haven, 2 Arrested: Police

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two people were arrested and an officer was injured after a dirt bike collision Sunday evening in West Haven, according to police.

Police said around 5:45 p.m. a “massive” amount of illegal dirt bikes, ATVs and cars came through West Haven via Woodmont Road in Milford.

As officers responded to the area, police said a dirt bike collision had occurred and the bikes were down in the driveway of a home on Morgan Lane.

Officers found two men, later identified as Hector Vasquesz and Brian Dejesus-Melendez, according to police.

As they were being taken into custody, police said Dejesus-Melendez began “actively resisting” and a sergeant saw him “manipulating a small crossbody bag.”

“After a significant struggle Dejesus-Melendez was secured in handcuffs,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Located in the bag on his body was a 9mm Ruger which was chambered and contained a full magazine.”

The sergeant’s shoulder was injured during the altercation, and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to police.

Vasquesz and Dejesus-Melendez were both charged with several motor vehicle and criminal charges in connection with the incident, according to police.

Police said more information will be released when the investigation is completed.
