Men ‘Recklessly’ Drove Off-Road Vehicles: West Haven Police

Police say the men were recklessly driving off-road vehicles on public roads and one was involved in an accident & tried to leave the scene.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two men were arrested after police said they were “recklessly” driving off-road vehicles on public roads Sunday in West Haven. One of the vehicles, a four-wheeled quad, was involved in an accident in which it struck the side of a passing vehicle, according to Sgt. Charles Young.

Young said both men tried to leave the scene of the accident but were detained by West Haven police officers and arrested. The accident occurred around 6 p.m. on May 24.

Kevin Davila-Dejesus, 21, of Bridgeport, was operating an off-road motorcycle at the time of the incident and was charged with operation of unregistered vehicle, illegal operation while license refused/suspended, reckless driving, interfering with an officer/resisting, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Orvin X. Reyes, 25, of Waterbury, was driving the four-wheel quad-style vehicle and was charged with reckless driving, illegal operation of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer/resisting, second-degree breach of peace and reckless driving.

Both men were released on written promises to appear in court.

“Any vehicle driven on the roadway that was not originally manufactured for road use including off-road style motorbikes and Quads or vehicles that are operated in a manner that puts others in fear of their safety are committing a number of motor vehicle and/or criminal offenses,” Young wrote in a news release. “Anyone observed/reported to be involved in this illegal activity will be confronted by members of this agency as well as partner agencies as we continue to address this ongoing public safety issue.”
