More Than $11K In Drugs Seized During Traffic Stop: West Haven Police

Police seized more than $11,000 worth of drugs, including $8,350 of fentanyl, during a traffic stop in West Haven, according to officials.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Police seized more than $11,000 worth of drugs, including $8,350 of fentanyl, during a traffic stop Wednesday in West Haven, according to officials.

Members of the West Haven Police Department’s Street Crime Unit were in the area of Terrace Avenue and Glade Street assisting the Patrol Division with a stolen car investigation, according to police.

Police said that while in the area, Street Crime Officers saw a vehicle engaging in what appeared to be “suspicious activity.”

After a brief pursuit, police said a motor vehicle stop was conducted in the area of Terrace Avenue and Campbell Avenue.

Police said the following items were found in the vehicle: 330 zip-lock bags containing a white substance, later determined to be fentanyl, 112 various colored zip-lock bags containing an off-white chunk/rock substance, later determined to be crack cocaine, and 22 zip-lock bags containing a light purple chunk/rock substance, later determined to be both cocaine and fentanyl. Police said $2,890 in cash was also found in the vehicle.

“The total approximate weight of the suspected fentanyl seized was 4.43 ounces (124.1 grams) with an estimated street value of $8,350,” police wrote in a news release. “The total approximate weight of the suspected crack cocaine seized was 46.9 grams with an estimated street value of $2,240. Finally, the total approximate weight of the suspected cocaine/fentanyl mix was 10.6 grams with an estimated street value of $420.”

Alexander Garcia, 26, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one count each of possession with intent to sell more than ½ ounce of cocaine, possession of narcotics, use of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an officer, failure to insure motor vehicle, failure to register a motor vehicle, operating without a license and improper use of registration.

He was released after posting a $100,000 bond with a court date of Nov. 29, according to state judicial records.
